Artist's Description
Following the work "Arab Despair" (see the Drawings and Sketches Gallery), "Arab Despair Two - La Pieta" was based on a news photograph from Syria of a father holding his dead son in his arms and, in bereavement, oblivious to the chaos around him. The image eerily evokes feelings of sorrow and pity and has a stark resemblance to Michelangelo's La Pieta (circa 1498-99). Work completed in Fall of 2012.
